.... I'm blaming it on the undigested Tim Bits, Poutine and an overdose of Maple Syrup :)

after reading this post, I would like to make a comment on the vendors side. we put in red letters on our shopping cart that the online cart cannot calculate overseas prices. Then we get Canadians and overseas buyers just paying for the part and no shipping. we spent a lot of time trying to get them to pay the shipping. we have actually had buyers ignoring our requests for weeks about paying the postage (yes, we like to mail parts). or asking where there part is, even though they have not paid postage.
We would like to lower shipping costs or our customers, but when we put USPS $5.50 flat rate postage on the online item, Canadians demanded we send the part over the border for the $5.50. so we can not charge the $5.50 flat rate to USA customers on small items because overseas (yes, you Canadians are overseas) customers demand that postage. So, we will start charging the $5.50 postage on small items that will fit in the USPS flat rate box to our fellow Americans, and hope it is not abused by overseas people, who we are very happy to mail parts to at the actual price it cost to do so.
Thanks

Jay's points make perfect sense. I'd have thought that updating your ecommerce solution so that the purchasers country of origin dictates available shipping rates though would help, and forcing a shipping method to be selected prior to confirming purchase?

I'm having trouble trying to figure out your post, Jay. I've reread all of the posts on this thread and I can't find anything where the Canadian posters are complaining about paying for shipping - or complaining that shipping to Canada is more expensive than shipping within the US. I'm pretty sure we all have a pretty clear understanding of that little fact of life... as we are that the Canadian dollar is worth less than the US dollar so we pay a premium for this as well.
What we Canadians are complaining about is US shippers using UPS rather than USPS to ship our stuff. We pay a significant penalty when UPS is used that most shippers are not even aware of. My rule now is that I will not purchase from a vendor who will not ship to Canada via USPS. I have been very fortunate that the vendors that I have dealt with understand this and are quite happy to ship via USPS.

To be honest... its really very complicated to ship overseas. Shipping to Canada is a little more simple than most countries. For instance, a 124 dash cover weight is about 5-6 lbs packed. One would think that it should then ship at a 5-6 lbs rate... not so fast. Some countries have postal size restrictions.... and others require a dimension based price for shipping. Even a slight error in those calculations can cost a tidy sum. And the wild card which is most upsetting for customers is domestic customs... which unfortunately we as shippers have no control over those fees (one country is actually 100% of the value including the cost of shipping!)

International shipping a big challenge for all of us. We have customers in countries that I never imagined would have 124s... many of whom are now good friends and whom I and my family have visited or vice versa.

Its a small world.... but Id hate to have to paint it!

I would feel guilty, but I had my 124 dash cover from A/R sent to upstate NY and drove to pick it up so I know it can't be about me. :)

One of the best darned things I've done to the car, as now I don't have to look at huge unsightly cracks every minute I'm in it. :)

Jay (of SpiderRoadster) when I called towards the end of last spring (beginning of summer?) you really helped me out in a pinch after I cooked a rear brake caliper. You were way ahead of the game and suggested to me that you ship via USPS. Thanks for the great service and conversation!

Exactly. I fully EXPECT to pay the full cost to ship, and When they say taxes and duties are due... No complaints

The complaint is when a vendor ships it by UPS ("U-Pay-Surcharges")... They charge a ridiculous amount to "process" this collection. Sorry, but there is NO Excuse for a $25 fee to process collecting $11...

Ramzi, fully agree. Process to ship internationally, via multiple postal carriers, everyone having different rules... Yuck.
Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, we have decided to turn off the light at the end of the tunnel. We apologize for any inconvenience.
