I spent some time yesterday tidying up the center console on my 1800. Fitted a coupe console (thanks Csaba!), couple of extra gauges (you can't never have too much), and a hidden stereo (as the coupe console doesn't lend itself well to a head unit IMHO).
I'm using an old iPhone 4S 64Gb as a control unit, synch'd with my home media server whenever it's within wifi range (i.e. in the garage) means that it's got about 40Gb of music and ... (and this is where my stupidity started), the potential for a bunch of movies...
... I started thinking that "when we're on roadtrips, perhaps the wife would like to watch a movie, or maybe stream live TV over LTE etc. etc. etc.). So I got to thinking about a screen... and quickly realized that mounting a front video screen isn't really possibly in a spider without removing one of leg room / glove box room / windscreen space...
... So I then spent an hour looking into putting rear headrest screens into my spider... which in retrospect would be perfect for the people driving behind, provided the wind deflector is out....
Probably the most stupid idea I've had...

Too much time on your hands with Mrs. Toplessexpat traveling. But, those screens would be great for watching an NFL game while at a Sunday car show.....Can you figure out how to stream the game in?

That's easy to do - over 4G/LTE. Perhaps a trunk mounted screen specifically for car shows..... operated by a TOGGLE!

Oh good lord, buy a modern car for this kind of thing.
Strip all that crap out, buy a Blaupunkt Frankfurt AM radio that barely plays through the one speaker, and haul ass.

lol
Actually... stereo is now completely hidden away behind the rear shelf. Nice and clean looking with nothing visible.

What did you use for a hidden radio? I'm looking to delete my center console someday.. The only thing I can find is that SecretAudio thing (http://www.casmfg.com/Secretaudio.htm)..

Hey -
I've got a Kicker PXI50.2 - it's ok, but doesn't like anything apart from iPhone 3, 3GS and 4 (and the usual iPods and iPads). Not a problem for me as I had a spare 3 that I've loaded with music and the garmin iPhone app.
The kicker has a neat remote panel that I've put where the front ashtray used to go. The unit itself is behind the rear seat, along with an amp. The kicker can drive 4x20w, but I've got some JBL speakers that take a little more oomph, so I picked up a pyramid amp.
I've been getting a bit of ground loop noise, so I've got a pair of suppressors to fit this weekend.
The kicker does have a small fault, so they're shipping me a new one. If it's a recurrent fault, I've got a JVC iphone cable that has a short run USB for power, and long run outputs for audio and video RCA which can go straight into the amp (and I'll get the ashtray back!)
