Will a transmission from a 1970 Spider fit in later years?
Thanks,
Josh
Transmission question
Re: Transmission question
Josh,
I am 99% sure that all the 5 speed transmissions are the same and therefore interchangeable.
So yes, you can comfortably sell that rebuilt tranny to a buyer wanting to know if they can put it in their '78.

Re: Transmission question
Yes, if you swap the bellhousing from the later trans. Note that the 1970 will have an even lower 5th gear (0.91 vs 0.88 for the later Spiders), and a pull-up-for-reverse shifter. The latter is shorter than the later lower shifters, so if you combine it with a later upper (chrome) shifters, you will get a somewhat shorter shifter.
