34ADF on 1800 manifold - gaskets and spacer

Post by Jrlovvorn »

Hi,

I am taking my 34ADF off my 79 dual plane manifold and mounting it onto an 1800 single plane.

Do I need a spacer and gaskets with one big hole, rather than the existing spacer and gaskets with two holes?

Or does it not matter?

If it does matter, any recommendations on a source?

A long Google search of gaskets and spacers left me pretty confused.

I ran my 34ADF with no spacer and a gasket with a single "large hole".

Does not matter but make sure the holes are big enough if it has two, or that the throttle flaps open all the way and you orient correctly if it has one.

Thanks!
I ordered a small spacer and gaskets with one hole.
I will check to make sure the throttles don't get hung up on the gasket. Didn't know that was a risk.
Thx

Also make sure the throttle engages - I usually use a 1/2" spacer with gaskets on both sides. Some manifolds the throttle will bottom out if the spacer is too small.

If you are going to use a spacer - watch that your air cleaner isn't too high and fouls the hood.

An easy way to determine how much room you have for spacers -- between the top of the air cleaner and hood -- is to loosely crumple some aluminum foil, place it on the air filter, then close the hood. Then open the hood and measure the depth of the resulting crushed foil. The greater the depth of the spacers between the manifold and the carburetor the more low end torque you will have available.

Thanks a ton. This is all very helpful! Especially the foil trick.
