before you pull stuff apart, dink with the activating arm to see if you can tell if the end is on the pivot ball. If it is not, you may be able top wrestle it back on.

I did just that, and the arm was completely deranged. I think I see the problem It looks like it has de-coupled from the TO Bearing though still on the pivot ball:

I think I can rotate the TO bearing, but what would keep it from jumping off again?

Thanks, Mike. I'll check that when I get the TO bearing sorted.

for the arm to disengage from the fork, it must have come off of the pivot

Hi Mark,

Arm disengage from the fork? Arm ≠ Fork?

Okay, forgive my ignorance, but what is the difference?

The pivot ball not only acts as a pivot but also locates the arm for in and out movement. This means if the arm is on the ball, the arm pins will locate correctly on the throwout bearing. from the looks of your pictures, the arm has come off the ball. The arm should have a spring fork to hold it on the pivot ball. I am wondering if it is missing or you didnt get the spring fork under the ball.

Yep it seems like that might be possible, but it won't move laterally. I would think if it was off of the ball, then it would.

Anyhoo, I have fiddled with it, and can't seem to get it from under the car. I think the transmission is coming off

Been forever since I looked at a Fiat TO bearing and clutch, so I am just sayin, it doesn't look right. Did you buy the TO brg and pressure plate as a kit?? That part of the TO bearing that pushes on the fingers looks too small, but I'm doin something I generally rail against, I'm guessing.
Can't wait to hear what is going on!

sorry, I had a typo. I meant for the arm to disengage from the bearing it must have come off of the pivot

It's the TO and pressure plate that were in the car when I bought. It's always worked great. Smooth engage/disengage great grab.

I will definitely let you know but right now it looks like the eating popped off of the fork.

So we finally got the transmission out, and the TO bearing was indeed slipped off of the fork, and also the fork off of the pivot ball. Installed a replacement TO bearing and slipped it on the pivot ball, and it's working great! Thanks for all your help guys!
