Carb or Injection?

Hey guys looking I buy a 79 spider. It's a ways away though, he told me it's fuel injected but I'm thinking it's carbureted. Anyone know forsure?

It wasn't factory fuel injection. Someone may have converted it. Some late 1980's were fuel injected but, not the early ones.

i think 1980 could go either way .... 81 and on are all FI ... don't think 79 was an option but I could be wrong .... tell him to send a pic of the engine and post it up and we will know then for sure

Jus got back from seeing the car it was carb. The guy really didn't know muc about the car at all he toldme that the timing belt was changed last in 85. Yikes. I will post the pictures later!

Not entirely correct. There is a thread on the forum somewhere, but Fiat started producing the fuel injected Spiders in late 1979 for the 1980 model year (and my first '80 FI Spider was made in September or October 1979 - can't remember the exact date). In any case, all model year 1980 Spiders sold in California were fuel injected, while they were apparently an option in other States. According to contemporary magazine articles, towards the later part of 1980 all Spiders were fuel injected.

The 79 and 80 carb'd cars had the lowest HP rating on the spiders. A few bolt on bits and pieces can liven it up though.
