Paint/stain a soft top?

Post by SpeedySpider »

My spider is sky blue with an off-white soft top, the top is in good condition still but is kinda discoloured in places. I've been told there's some paint or stain to use to make it black (my preferred color! ). Has anyone done this? Does it work good and any particular product that works best? Thanks ! - Kate

Depending on what material your top is made of is going to be the big deciding factor. If its an off-white I am guessing your top is possibly canvas. I came across this product on Amazon I have no experience with it what so ever. i doubt you will get it to a full deep black color if it is canvas. But anything is worth a try. You might be able to use a little tsp to bleach it back to its original color... might be better than trying to die it if it is canvas.

If it is vinyl then there are some paints out there that you can use, but I will guarantee that you'll have to apply it and touch it up often. I doubt it will stay very well in the weather and heat as most of the ones I have seen are for interior applications. Those you could find at your local auto parts store.. hopes this helps! :)

Cheers!

Well more or less my point of view on the subject. But Any time Kate! I'd try the tsp solution. Whitewall cleaner might work.. Test both in an inconspicuous area first ..

Happy Halloween!
