Breaks air gushing out

Post by dinosabella »

I i thought it would be a god idea if I extend my leg as to get access to my wallet that was in my back pocket. While doing to I pushed really hard on the break pedal. All o I sudden I hear air gushing out every time I press on the breaks and the engine even sputters a little.

Has anyone had this happen to them before. I need to get my car home, the breaks are a little weaker but she still stops.

I am assuming I messed something up vacuum related, the air is gushing out under the dash. Could it be a hose? Or is this something a lot more serious?

Thanks

The only air in your brakes are the power assist. The only hose is the big one that goes from the manifold to the booster under the hood. If that hose is in good shape then you probably lost the membrane in the booster unit itself. Others have taken these apart, but they are spring loaded with a pretty heavy spring. I recommend replace the booster.

Yeup, I second that...sounds like the booster is pooched. New or see if there is one from a car being parted out below. A couple of hours to swap out if I remember...
