Commute to Work Vid - #myottawa

Post by phaetn »

Given the unhappy international headlines of the attack at the National War Memorial and Parliament in Ottawa yesterday, lots of local Canucks have started posting their pictures of the city on #myottawa to celebrate what they like most about living here.

Here's my favourite part of living in this beatiful nation's capital:
https://vimeo.com/109876563
The vid is a few weeks old, but the weather was great!

I live right by the Prime Minister's residence (it's across the street in the the first turn in the vid) and security was very tight yesterday coming home with no vehicular access on that road. Today there's a bit more police presence around the city, but everyone is going on with life as usual. Score 1 for a free and open democratic society!

The part I like I best about the vid itself is the puff of blue smoke as I blip the throttle for a downshift right as the sound fades out. :)

Cheers,
phaetn

Beautiful city. Our thoughts and prayers to the soldier's family, as well as the other armed forces victims the day before near Montreal. We Canadians are standing strong side by side with America to rid this world of evil. This is developping to become Canada's 9-11, ironically 10-22.

Looks like a great place to go for a ride with the top down. Good for you!
Keep enjoying your beautiful city and don't let these loony thugs change
your way of life. I can tell you that down here in Texas we are praying for
our friends and neighbors there in Canada

That's exactly how cool I look (in my deluded world) when I'm behind the wheel of my Spider.... must get some Raybans though. 8)

On a sad (and relevant) note. In Australia we recently had two police officers stabbed severely outside a police station by a radicalised young man. He was shot dead and the officers have spent some time in hospital. We are right behind our friends in Canada and the US, and every other free thinking country, that wants to see this violence end.

So hard to find the right words at a time like this. Here in USA we have lost so many freedoms and have too many citizens living in fear since 9/11. Terrorism preys on the innocent. It is a tool of cowards who sneak up on unsuspecting folks in the name of what???
I am saddened to see other nations suffering the loss of innocent people because of twisted ideologies.
Our prayers are with you.

A bit of spirited driving just as I was getting home today had me pulled over by that increased police presence I was talking about around town earlier. :) I haven't had a moving violation in probably twenty-five years. I saw lights in my mirrors, pulled over, and wasn't sure if he was just trying to get by me as it was the national force (RCMP) not the local cops. Ottawa is funny: We have three different police forces with jurisdiction for different roads (municipal, provincial highways, and federal land/parkways).

Anyhow, he never ever get out of his car. Just pulled up beside me, lowered his window and said. "It's 40 on this road. Let's remember that in the future." I sheepishly said, "Got it -- thanks!"

Maybe its just a US thing, but it is anti-cool to drive top down with the windows up here. Its a cardinal rule.

I have the same steering wheel, love it.

Tee hee. :)

In the summer windows are always down. But right now it's getting mighty cold -- just 40F first thing in the morning (about 5C). As long as it's not pouring rain, I'm always top down, even with a drizzle. This time of year, though, windows up makes it just that little bit warmer and the air less turbulent, especially since my heater has been bypassed so I don't get any warm air whatsoever except the occasional waft of blue smoke from my exhaust... :)

If think windows up are the anti-thesis of cool, you should see me driving with the windows up AND a fur trapper hat buckled up beneath the chin so it doesn't fly off:

I'll drive the car through November, if I'm lucky. I used to ride a motorbike right to one degree below freezing and one year commuted to Dec 01, then was riding again my March 21st (snow melted early that season). I'll go a bit longer in the Spider if I can since it's much less risky that being on two wheels, but it has to be away and snug before the city starts salting the roads...

Ditto. I think it rocks! Took a day of getting used to it and now I'd never go back to stock.

The last few years I have been lucky enough to keep her on the road till 11 Nov. I take my Spider to the National Military cemetery on Remembrance day. Hope this year holds up but so far it's not looking too good.

Just checked out your "Family tunes" video phaetn, enjoying the no-pro are ya?
That video is great and is a perfect example of how we feel when we drive our Spiders.
When I'm driving my Spider, I have that same feeling.....
Happy  , happy  , happy....
