Cheap !@!$$ ignition switches

Post by red107 »

I need to vent for a bit!!! I was working off some of my to do list on the ole girl and decided to clean up the interior. Got some new tires, fluids changed, and leaks fixed. Well anyway I was cleaning up some of the wiring in the center console and the all my connection to my ignition switch came off. No biggie, just reconnect. I pulled out the diagram and climb upside down and tried it. Well after about two minutes upside down I decided to just remove the switch. I done this a few times on my spider, no problem, right. I removed the two screws, turned the key 90 degrees, and pushed the release springs. Well the switch came out alright. Came out in few pieces. The pot metal opposite the spring is gone!!! Now I sit here and wait for my new switch to show up. What pisses me off is right before I left for japan and put the car in storage four years ago I put a new switch in. It was a the LADA switch I believe. GRRRRR!!!

Sorry to hear that. It must be very frustrating. I've not heard anything good about the Lada switches.

Have replaced a couple of these as well. I've had good luck finding OEM switches from reputable sources. Always worried I'm buying someone's problem.

I picked up a switch from a German Fiat vendor when i was vacationing in Germany. That switch lasted a only a year until the internal start position contacts gave up the ghost only after 1 year. It was understood it was a Russian switch. I then bought a used Sipea from Evil bay.

I disagree. The one in 4uall's link highly resembles the switch i bought from Germany from the look on the markings on the key. The original Sipea i have now has the plastic on the key. Looks like it's 30 years old therefore it has lasted 30 x longer than the other one which i bought new.
