Anyone got a handy tool or home brew method for putting in the c clips on the piston wrist pin? psg

I'm sure there is a special tool somewhere, but I never found one.

My machine shop could not do it so they called me. I picked them up and used a 2" long piece of 3/4" copper pipe and a socket that fit inside of the pipe. I put the ring on a flat serves and.... now I don't remember, somehow got it in the pipe. Than I lined it up with with the piston and hit the socket with the hammer. Most of them went in on the first hit.
Later I discovered that people have done it the same way. There are videos on YouTube.

I tried the copper pipe and had more trouble getting the ring in the pipe so I went the patience route and have completed two pistons with needle nose pliers, vice and a small screw driver. thanks for the response. psg

Thanks for all the tips on the circlip installation. I took them all and came up with what turned out to be a straightforward, relatively easy installation process. After trying various methods and home made tools, I had given up and went online to buy a tool. The only tools I found were for 22mm and under, the Fiat circlip is 24mm. But RLM (http://www.rlmdistribution.com/), in their tool page, had a how to use, picture list for their "sleeve" tool that showed me how to take all my homemade tools and use them. I made a video of the process using 3/4" copper tube, notched screw driver and a 14mm socket:http://youtu.be/6WV3841CS-U

Great tip!!!!

Two comments: Wear safety glasses, and the numbers on the rod go toward the exhaust side, not the intake. I believe that is how you did it in the video, numbers toward the smaller cutout on the piston, but said it wrong.
