Well, I am making progress.

I bought a mig welder from Harbor Freight and I have been welding up a storm of 16 gage steel on the floor board and the big headache is getting a little lighter.

Using cardboard as templates and the passenger side floor board is looking pretty good.

with some practice, you can make some reputable welds with it. Although I use my gas rig exclusively now, the value of a 90 dollar welder cannot be beat. I suggest that everyone go to Harbor Freight immediately and buy one. :P Also suggest their auto-darkening facemask. it works great.

I bought a MIG welder probably 30 years ago. It still works well, and it has done a lot of work for me over the years. The cost has gone down a lot since then, but I would buy a decent unit with gas. I have welded up Mufflers, built wrought iron railings, welded in body panels, and the list goes on. They are surprisingly easy to use, and the gas is a good part of that.

I just rebuilt the impeller on a 2300 dollar leaf vacuum that I bought for 150.00. I also repaired the impeller housing. Those two parts alone would have cost me 500 dollars new.

If you mess around with FIATS, this is a great tool to have.
