Re: timing belt opinion
Your decision. Most folks would say change it. Having said that, at 175 miles I might be inclined to risk it. Just remember it's an interference engine........ And for less than $30...........

the biggest issue is whether you can pull the belt without damaging it. If so, then i would reuse it.

I agree. I re-tightened my belt 3-4 times after the initial install (that's another story), but only minutes running time on the belt. The manual I have tells you to replace it.azruss wrote:the biggest issue is whether you can pull the belt without damaging it. If so, then i would reuse it.

Re tensioning a belt that has been tensioned once is going to give it a different stretch, especially after you have run it for a while. How much is a belt anyway ? How much for an engine ? I would go with the new belt.
If you have time to get a new gear, you have time to get a belt. And a matching tie and handkerchief.

If a timing belt stretched it would put your timing out.DanD wrote:Re tensioning a belt that has been tensioned once is going to give it a different stretch

Less than $18, why would you risk it...
Does not matter how many miles are on it, once it's tensioned and stretched it's not supposed to be reused.
