Putting That Blasted Fuel Tank Hose On Made Easy!
So today I replaced the hard green hose that runs from the fuel tank to the gas filler tube to circulate vapors.
The one I took off (the '72 coupe) was the original and was hard as a rock and cracking. Csaba from AR found an OEM hose, and I struggled to get it on for an hour with no luck - just too hard and the ID was way too small. So I called and he and Ramzi suggested I boil it. So my son and I waited until my wife was gone, stuck it in one of her prized pots and boiled it, went out to he garage, and it slipped right on with virtually no struggle! 10 minutes later it had cooled and shrunk, and was sealed tighter than any clamp would ever seal it.
And we got the pot back in the house, cleaned up on the shelf again just as my wife pulled into the driveway. Phew.

I've been trying to figure out how to fit my header in our oven while my wife is at work!! Ha, she'd love that!

I was cleaning up my lights and had them off to dremel the connections clean. Wifey headed out to the gym so I stuck the lenses in the dishwasher and ran it through. Retrived the lenses before she returned. She thanked me for running the dishwasher through!

SoFLa - I'm not sure about that header in the oven. Maybe her hair dryer(s) while she is out for a few hours?

The IDF13/15 carbs I've got on my car were stripped and boiled in dishwasher solution in Management's large stainless jam pot. It's slightly discoloured up to the fluid level I had in it, but she hasn't noticed. After a coat of paint I had the letterbox in the oven this weekend so I could dry the paint quicker to get a second coat on.Ramzi wrote:That is exactly the same thing I did... Maya's best pot and all

Man - some of you guys are really pushing the limits here! How does she not noticed discolored stainless? You had better have an explanation ready when she asks that question!
Re: Putting That Blasted Fuel Tank Hose On Made Easy!
There is still a slight stain (or lack or metal possibly) on our relatively new kitchen sink. Apparently modern kitchen sinks are not rated to withstand the muratic acid required to clean some Fiat parts.sptcoupe wrote:Man - some of you guys are really pushing the limits here! ... she's still not happy about that one.

You could just tell her that Muriatic acid is used to clean stainless sinks, and that the slighter darker color is the way it should look after cleaning....
Re: Putting That Blasted Fuel Tank Hose On Made Easy!
Don't think I didn't already try that. She's apparently much smarter than I am.
I did tell her about this thread yesterday.... "confessions of a Fiat husband"... she got a kick out of the fact that Im not the only one destroying her kitchen to keep my cars operational.

Please make sure she doesn't call Carol! That would be the end of it (the 44 year marriage - NOT the FIAT habit)!

I do believe she hasn't actually used it since I did, it's sitting high on a shelf like the sword of Damocles.sptcoupe wrote:How does she not noticed discolored stainless?

I'm all talk, if I actually had to explain to my wife that I used the oven to cure paint....sptcoupe wrote:Man - some of you guys are really pushing the limits here! How does she not noticed discolored stainless? You had better have an explanation ready when she asks that question!
I'd be history!! No excuses!
That said, I would take my 3 fiats and the OVEN with me!!
