Had my '71 since 2003, when it replaced my '70 that was the victim of an accident. I had the '70 since 1996, it was probably my 20th Spider at that time, and I was going to keep it forever...

Imported mine from PA, landed in MEL in Feb this year with NO RUST, recon motor, new shocks and myriad other bits, new paint Made roadworthy with minor mechanical repairs and now on the road for 4 weeks as i write. Always like the PF shape, and use it as a daily drive; probably going to be the first of a few.

I have had the pleasure of having Gary's original spider in my garage in Dallas some years ago. He and Ace drive it from SoCal to Dallas for a car show. Great car and a closer bond between a car and it's owner/driver would be hard to find.

Great thread - keep those posts coming.

2285 days
326 weeks (rounded down)
2285 days
6 years, 3 months 2 days
(Jul 9,2008)

Unfortunately my car has been put to bed since last week. These are the figures for the amount of time she has sat in 3-season storage since 2008:

115196904 seconds
1919948 minutes
31999 hours
1333 days
3.65 years

If you subtract group2 figures from group1 figures and multiply by 0.428, the result is the amount of time she's actually enjoyed in the sun or during nice evenings.

I am the second owner but the car has been in the family since new. My parents bought my 81 fiat in December of 1980. The car was bought from the Fiat Dealership in Kaiserslautern (K-Town) Germany. I took the car to my Senior Prom (Ramstein HS) in 1986. The car was shipped back to the states in the fall of 86. In 1988 the car was shipped to South Korea (parents last duty Station). I got the car in 1993. It sat in Storage until I returned from Spain in 1999. I started restoring the car in the summer of 2001. Due to my military obligation it has been a long process.

Had to post this after seeing the prom picture. Here is my son and his bud, Larry heading to prom in the 70 spider. No, Larry was NOT his date. Larry was, however, Oregon state prep athlete of the year (football, backetball, track). Both guys still hold track records at their school some 30 years later.

Snorted out loud over "The Bitch". Had my '71 2 1/2 years. My wife hates the oil stains in the drive way, tolerates the ridiculous amount of money I've "invested" in the car, and loves how happy this little car has made me. She's a nice gal, and the wife is pretty good too.

My father bought my fiat for me and my sister to share going to HS back in 1984. I was only 14 and couldn't even drive it yet. My sister wrecked it before I was 15. We had it fixed up and it basically became mine not long after that because of the countless hours and $$ I spent keeping it roadworthy. Funny story when we went to a local european parts store to get something first time the owner asked us for what kind of car. Told him it was a 79 fiat spider and he said "I'll be seeing you a lot". He was right. Drove it daily for 10 years then parked it. It hasn't seen a street since about '96 and now makes a nice extra shelf in our garage. Life, wife, and time are major obstacles in bringing it back to life. Used to be I had time and no money, now I have money and no time and a very non supportive spouse. Some obstacles are too hard to overcome, but I keep trying. By my count that's 30 years of ownership and 94k miles. Its under here somewhere now.
