250 mile 79 Spider sells for $26k

Post by vandor »

I just got my copy of Classic Motorsports magazine and in their review of the Russo and Steele auction they list that a '79 Spider with only 250 miles was sold for $26k.
I wonder what kind of condition it was in...

This car belonged to a writer for Surfer Magazine for 35 years. His name was Paul Haven. He had a habit of buying new cars and not driving them much. 8)

Is there not a way to run the VIN 124CS20151879 to see at least if it comes up on any shops radar etc :?

Seems too good to be true

Carfax won't show anything, but the California smog test results would provide some information if they had license plates on the car.

Note that it is missing the lower vent louvers on the console. With 250 miles on it, I'd expect them to be there.

Nice looking car, but there are a few things I see from the pictures that I would question.
Who would pay for wire wheels and an ansa exhaust on car they were not planning to drive?
Or could they have been dealer options at the time?

Mine too. Only I have a '81 Pininfarina with air, power windows and 42,000 miles! Love the brown!

250 miles in 35 years? Hard to believe. Mine had only been driven 5,000 miles in the last 15 years, and although garage kept it's entire life, I had to replace all the water / oil seals and brake lines. And if that is honest milage, I sure hope they didn't dry start it!

But man, those wire wheels sure look nice!

Maybe 250 miles since the respray.

- The emblems are not original
- The wheels are obviously not original (and actually look worse than the steel wheels on the 79 if that's possible)
- ANSA twin tip?
- Why would it need a new top?

It just looks resprayed. Not sure how else to say it but the orange peel on the fender shots looks like too much paint. FIAT didn't put much paint on cars, it was almost flat and never looked glossy.

Then again you let a Spider sit around for 35 years or so and its going to need everything, probably new paint as well... Nice car, the interior is very nice to see, even the mild passenger seat bend looks original.
