Which engines interchange with the 1608?
I guess this might be a simple question - I'm looking to pick up a spare engine or two for my racing project. The car currently has a 1608 in it, but I haven't seen many of those in a budget frendly price range. Would the 1800 or 2000 engines bolt in with the same intake (single downdraft Weber carburetor) and exhaust manifolds? I'd need something I could swap at the track "just in case". The car is a '71 124 Sport Coupe if it makes any difference.

Both the 1800 and 2000 will bolt in, but with the 2000 you may have clearance issues between the hood and the distributor or air filter, as that block is taller.

Thanks for the info! I'll measure clearances before picking up a 2000. I should be all good with the manifolds and transmission though, right?

transmission will work. there might be an slight issue with the exhaust. since the 2 liter is taller, there could be a clearance issue with the pipe and the steering center link. if that ends up being the case, let me know, i have a spacer you can have for shipping...
