Hi could someone tell me how to relieve the fuel pressure in the injection system before I disconnect the fuel lines and rail. Car is a 1981 spider.
Thanks
Nick

Re: Taking the fuel pressure out
I usually start at the cold start injector or where the metal fuel line meets the rubber hose on the body of the car and wrap a rag around to catch the fuel, there wont be that much fuel in the system. In one of my books there is a pic of usuag a bulb to the fuel pressure regular in a vaccum state to purge the system back to the tanknibbes123 wrote:Hi could someone tell me how to relieve the fuel pressure in the injection system before I disconnect the fuel lines and rail. Per the service manual, if you have a hand vacuum pump, then locate the vacuum hose coming out top of the fuel regulator and disconnect it at the manifold. Attached the pump to that end and pump it to 20 inches of vaccumm. Safer, and less messy that way.

Make sure you wear glasses, as it will spray all over the place if you don't wrap the connection well with a cloth. Ask me how I know this. It isn't very much, but it doesn't take very much to do a number on your eyes. Cold engine, no smoking, disconnect battery.

Re: Taking the fuel pressure out
Thought I might add my recent experience.. I am in the process of pulling my engine out and disconnected the fuel lines with the rag process, all went well, waited till all the fuel dripped out and went on our way doing other bits. At this point the car was close enough to ground level. We raised the hoist to start to undo the drag link ( we are droppong the engine from the bottom) I noticed the fuel started to drop out of the hoses. It appears the rise in temp expands the air in the tank and it then Pushes the fluid to the next weakest point. Solution was to open the tank lid and I'll also be blocking the end of the metal lines
Cheers David
