Is it possible to make adjustments to the shifter linkages?

Post by Jimb »

Once in awhile it can be less than a smooth shift into 1st after reversing.
Is this normal or is there some adjustment necessary?
My trans was just completely professionally overhauled.
Thanks,
Jim

Have you tried coming out of reverse, pausing in neutral, releasing the clutch, depress the clutch, then go into 1st?
Other than the ball and socket sliders on the bottom of the shift lever, and the position of the shift forks inside the trans, none of which were meant to be adjustable, I can't think of what your next step should be.
Possibly a clutch adjustment?

Oh you mean double clutching. I will try that.
I also do need to make a minor clutch adjustment because there's just a bit too much slack there.
Thanks,

I try to double clutch routinely on down shifts and going to and from reverse. It just makes sense and if you do it often enough it becomes automatic.

Even my 08 6 sp. Acura street car doesn't like going into reverse and the manual makes mention of it, suggesting a pause in neutral.

I don't think there's anything wrong with yours.

Great thanks.
Among the dozens of cars I've owned over the years 11 of them were Model A fords and it's mandatory to double clutch those.

Cheers,

Yeah, I was going throw out the term " double clutch",
just thought it would be easier to approach it like I did.
Now I know better. :)
