changing carbs

Need help. I am not a mechanic by any stretch. I have a 78 spider and am trying to learn to work on it my self at least as much as I can. I currently have a water controlled choke carb on the car. I am sure it is not the original because there is a manual choke knob under the dash which is not operating. I want to install a Weber 32/36 DFEV which was recommended. I do not have a vac distributor so that's not a problem. I have already plugged the water hoses to the old carb since the choke didn't work anyway. I know where the fuel line goes, but do not know what the other two hose connections are for. I also do not know what to do with exhaust hose that went back into the old carb air cleaner canister. I also do not know where to pick up power for the choke. I hope some out there has installed one of these and can help me. I can send pics if it would help.

I am betting that what you are calling a choke knob is really the "throttle" knob. It is used to set a manual engine speed. The '78 had a water activated choke.

Yeah you are probably right. Now do you know how to change out the carbs from the original to the new 32/36DFEV ?

Hey Stan, I just noticed your signature. I believe we met at the moonshine rally in elkin. I was was driving my black spider. We were parked the a alley way when you and your wife came walking up. Don't know if you've heard, but there will not be a Talley next year. John who drives the blue heally decided not to do it again and no one has stepped up to take his place. I went to VIR yesterday to watch the vintage sports car races and car show.

Hey Mark, I bought it from a local auto import parts house. They are not not mechanics and and no instructions came with it. They have sold some to local mechanics and I guess I could go there but I wanted to do it myself. Can't be that hard I just need to know where the hoses go. There are only two portals.

Yes I remember you from the rally. Too bad they are not having one next year. It was a fun event.

How were the vintage races? Phil Wicks was running in his BMW Mini. He is having a track day event on the long course at VIR tomorrow that I was planning on participating in, but I found some issues with my car that need to be addressed before I can put it on the track again. Denise Burchette from up in your area (Walkertown) was planning on participating in her car.

Did not know you were into the racing. I did not get to go on Sunday. Saturday was the only day I had available. There were more of spitfires, couple of tr3', couple of MGA's, and a fiat 128, and a yellow Minni cooper that beat everyone in the class.

Don't know except that I was told that he had driven one in the first "Italian Job" movie. I was talking with a driver/owner from Nashville who raced against him driving a '59 MGA. When I mentioned how the Minni had cleaned the field he "yeah he's a pro". You could tell the way he handled the corners.

If anyone is thinking about replacing thier original water controlled choke weber with a new weber 32/36DFEV and have questions let me know. I just finished intalling one on my '78.
