Soda wash

My Spider was soda blasted in it's early stage of resto. I recently tried to remove the crankshaft nut to replace timing belt. We could not move the nut despite a two meter pipe lever. We deduced that during the soda wash material has gotten to the back of the nut and perhaps with corrosion, welding the nut to the shaft. Belt replaced anyway, but the soda should be removed with a vinegar wash, then water. Just make sure you get it all.

Many will only come off with an air impact gun. It has always been so.

I have been using anti-seize when I replace the nut. I do plan to keep my Spider and do know I will take all the nuts off again when in storage to continue maintenance and restoration. If I go and the wife gets rid of it then the next owner will not diss me..at least on rusty and seized nuts

A trick is to put a socket with a 38mm (1.5") socket with a breaker bar on, and lay the breaker bar on the left (driver) side inner fender (put a rag under it so it does not scratch the paint). Just lay it there and then hit the starter motor for 1 second (don't start the car, possibly disconnect the ignition coil). The rotation of the engine will undo the nut.

BTW, late Spiders had a 24mm bolt instead of a nut, those are reverse thread!!
