Re: Off to paint
That hood scoop is excellent! Will it be ducted to the intake?

Sadly no, it is in the cowling to the air intake to the cabin of the car. However I am looking for a hood in my area that we can cut into, we have a few ideas we would like to try in the induction area!
Hopefully today I will have pictures with the cowling on the car.

So here is the new intake cowling, it came out great! It still has to be painted and properly fitted however you can see how it will look

Re: Off to paint
The the inside will be brush painted for the most part. I did paint most of the cabin area with POR 15 this turned out to be good and bad. apparently POR15 is an excellent rust blocker/encapsulator it does not play well with other paints after it has cured. My painter mentioned catalyst reaction ?? The point is that it will cause the other paint finish to fail.
Had I known this I would not have painted the POR 15 until I was ready to have the rest of the car painted as it can be painted over prior to being cured.
The interior paint was also in very good shape and will be completely covered with a new interior.

Re: Off to paint
I will be curious if you notice a big difference in air flow to the cabin with your scoop .... I only say this because once in the rain the water drops on the hood just seem to dance around a little at high speed ... did not seem like much "flow" moving across the hood at all .... but it also was more like the center of the hood around the humps

Re: Off to paint
The factory vent location is tried and true and used for years on all sorts of cars before swept back windshields. This is a natural high pressure area, so does not require facing the wind to be effective. Some 60s muscle cars had hood scoops facing backward for the same reason. Because of that, i would be surprised to see a big difference with yours. I will be curious to see how it affects the windshield wipers.

Re: Off to paint
I thought of that also, and to tell the truth I went for form over function. My thought is that since this is not a daily driver that I was going to be pretty careful not to intentionally drive in severe weather. So if it is to hot I will put the top down and drive faster... I am hoping that the pressure will let the defogger vents provide air thru the new heater core, I can always supplement with the wing windows. Worse case if none of these work I can always get an unaltered shroud for less than $100.81SPIDERMATT wrote:I will be curious if you notice a big difference in air flow to the cabin with your scoop .... We actually did not modify the mounting on the wipers, do you see an interference point?azruss wrote:. I will be curious to see how it affects the windshield wipers.

Here is a copy of my bill.....I have detailed records of all the stuff I am putting on the car please feel free to ask if you want more info!
This is the underside of the fiberglass dash, we put an hour glass shaped piece if metal between the vent holes so the when the mirror is mounted it will have a secure base. Even though the mirror is small it is billet and heavy for its size. We have not permanently mounted the mirror because my windshield frame is at the chrome shop and I want to confirm clearance with he windshield before drilling holes.

And here is the car packaged and ready to come HOME!!
The only bummer is that the Corona box has parts in it not beer!!
I know a lot of you do your own body work, you have my admiration and respect!! I am very glad that I went the professional route I only dream of this kind of skill set!!
Now I get to play with it again.....I a just terrified of scratching it!!

Re: Off to paint
My concern is not interference but turbulent airflow moving up the windshield causing the wipers to lift and chatter.

Re: Off to paint
Honestly I never thought of that! The opening is only about 5/8 high but I don't know anything about fluid dynamics so it may be possible. At the rate my build is going it will definately be a while before I can test it.

The car is home! And now the build shifts to a different mode.......guy trying to put a car together that he disassembled 2-3 years ago......shoulda taken more pictures!! Spent today putting door handles, side badges, top hooks onto the car...the damn door handles almost kicked my butt, however a link in this site helped me out!, That reminds me, I need to donate money to the site it is a GREAT resource!!
