Center console delete

Post by Robertglab »

Hey all,

So pulled the center console (upper and lower) out to fix some electrical gremlins created by the p.o. I drove the car to work a couple of days without it, I really started to dig the simple look of the interior sans- console and radio. Kinda reminds me of like an old race car like a cobra. I will be cutting some carpet pieces and making my own trimming for the shift boot and handbrake. Radio is going in the glovebox along with the switch gear for the hazards and heater fan.

Any thoughts

I say go for it. Myself as well has toyed with this idea. I think that the centre console looks no better with or without. Done right I suspect it could look even better. The bonus is that you will never have to worry about buying centre caps or covers any more. The interesting point to me is where the heater controls would go, and I never listen to the radio anyway.
Fire some pictures over and let the Jury decide!
My two cents ain't worth what it used to be

The very early Spiders had no center consoles and the heater controls were under the center of the dash.

I am planning to leave the heat controls where they are. I plan to make some sort of boot for them out of vynal material or maby just use a portion go the old console cut and shaped covered in loop carpet.

Personally, if I had unlimited budget :? I would move heater controls and install an estopp emergency brake, just a button in dash, and really clean up the trans tunnel :)
