Anyone knows what this is?
During my restoration work and when the wirring loom was removed i tried to be very methodical and photographed as well as marked all the connections. This one though seems it was never connected and would like to know what is for! Can anyone help? It's made of glass with a threaded nut. Wirring loom diagram did not seem to help.

Re: Anyone knows what this is?
that is the aux power socket, there was an option to get a portable light kit that plugged into that socket

thanks mate, so was this mounted on the dash or somewhere else? The locking nut seem to indicate that.

Re: Anyone knows what this is?
There should be a horizontal tab with a hole coming off the pedal box, it mounts there.
Sorry, I am not near my Spider, so I can't take a pic.

I found it amazing that this was actually a fiber optic lighting to my center counsel. Four wires plug into it.

Look at early 1960's GM products. Many of the accent lights on the dashboards were from a single lamp distributed by a loom of fiber optics.divace73 wrote:that is a different part, similar looking from memory80spiddy wrote:I found it amazing that this was actually a fiber optic lighting to my center counsel. Then there was GM Vigilight in the mid to late 60's which used fiber optics to light up indicators showing that head, running and signal lamps were operational. It was around a $25 option when they introduced it.

Mostly as a novelty lamp or artwork and not in the context that we see them today as data or communications conductors.80spiddy wrote:Very interesting. I didn't know fiber optics were around then.
In 1870 I believe Tyndale was experimenting with water as the medium in a tube to transfer light and later Alexander Bell was transmitting voice communications over short distances of about 200 feet using light without the use of a pipe or optical cable. Some toys in the 60's I recall used lucite rods as an optic to transfer light to various points from a single lamp too.

WOW, of course, I am one of those who, have never seen this mistic piece of equipment. In my owner manual, they have mantioned it, but no other informations about lamp itself. They havent inform reader, is it coming with car, or You are buyin it at dealers place, or just praying for lamp to fall from sky ...
