One of the nusances inhibiting us from using the car pleasurably has been the old car stink that adheres to clothes and lingers in women's hair.
Made big steps reducing the unburned hydrocarbon smell by getting the adfa32 jettign back to stock.
Then upping the base timing incrementally from 10 btdc to 22. No knocking or hard cranks, but dramatically reduced the odors and improved drivability. (non vac advance system, stock cr). But it wasn't enough....
Just got back from having a 1 3/4" Magnaflow spun cat installed, the '75 had little room even for a small cat, but we cut out the resonator, and put it there.
Was concerned with the headers and long run, too much exhaust heat would be lost at that location, but the cat lit off and did its job, and its only 65 degrees out.
Just got to work after that install, and i don't stink!
Even worse case, with the top up, and windows open. no stink. yay
Brought the fire estingguisher just in case today , didn't need ot use it! Small
pleasures

You may have replaced the stink with running too lean, after a little time pull your plugs and see if they are white. If so, bring your timing back towards 10 BTDC. 22 is a lot of initial advance.

I agree a bit with Brad above, initial of 22 deg is too much, and usually indicates something else (like cam timing) is wrong, or car would hard start/ping.
I don't agree however that it will cause it to run lean. Mixture is the same at 10btdc or 22btdc.
The fact that it stunk so bad before is also a indication that something isn't right. I smell another problem.

Re: Destinkafied - success
I will check the can timing then, thank you both.
One jet step richer than stock caused more stink and faint visible black soot when revving.
Nothing inherntly wrong with white plugs, proper jetting or fi will keep plugs white because they should self clean. Heat is power.
I go by the width of the soot ring at the base if the insulator.
Grey plugs are bad indeed!

Good call gentlemen
Found the intake cam advanced one tooth cog, and is now corrected. Seems to have reduced some power above 4500, but has additionally reduced the odor to nothing, along with the other corrections. I suspect theere was too much valve overlap in that condition.
