Compression check ... what should it be
I am planning on checking the compression on my 1982 spider and I was wondering what the compression should be ?

Re: Compression check ... what should it be
very little variance between cylinders is the importart part, but it should be at least 125 across the board

My experience: new rebuild with stock 8:1 compression = 150psi
Tired engine, but not totally worn out: 120 psi

I am getting 180+ (1608), is there a reason it would read so high?

Compression ratio of the 1608 is higher. that is to be expected.
Re: Compression check ... what should it be
The actual number --180, 125, etc-- can be all over the place depending on the gauge, the way you check it ( are all the plugs out?) how good the battery is, etc etc etc. Like Mark said, the important thing is they are all the same. HIgh compression pistons can certainly raise the number, and something most folks don't realize, wild cams will LOWER the number.
All basicly the same?? You're good to go.
