I had a loan (hire) of some vehicle corner scales recently to help set up a project car I've just about completed, so whilst they were on hand I took the opportunity to weigh my Fiats.
For all you U.S. citizens out there, the Modern World now measures weight in Kilograms . There are 2.2 pound to the kilogram, so the Spider weighs in at 979 kg, or 2154 pounds. The Coupe at 958 kg is 2108 pounds.
My Spider is a 1976 CS1 with a 2-litre twin cam and 131 gearbox, it was weighed with the spare wheel and basic tools on board and 1/4 of a tank of fuel.
The Coupe is a 1968 torque-tube AC with a 1600 twin cam. Although used extensively as a tarmac rally competition car, it's never had any weight cut out of it (still has a back seat, all the trim and roof lining) and it's fitted with a full roll cage, hydraulic handbrake and other bits of rally gear. It was weighed with the spare wheel and a couple of gallons of fuel in the tank - but was still 20kg lighter than the Spider.
The Spider has very slightly better front / rear weight distribution at 53.5 / 46.5 against the Coupe's 54.3 / 45.7, but generally the weight distribution of both 124s is fairly good.

The battery is already in the back of the CS1 and I've moved the coupe battery to the rear as well.cos wrote:very usefull data, many thanks for sharing this. With the battery at the back on the later Spiders, distribution bust be even better?

The Coupe's wheels are Performance Superlite 13" x 7" Made in Sth Australia and still available: http://www.performancewheels.com.au/Home/Home.aspsilvadw wrote:Hi Curly,

The Spider's wheels are Simmons V4 15" x 7" made in NSW; but no longer available. They ar a 2 piece wheel and were originally made for the Alfetta GTV, so have the same 4 x 98mm pcd as Fiats. I found this set at an Alfa wreckers on the northern outskirts of Melbourne. They were in pretty poor condition, but cleaned up OK.

Thanks Curly, I need fresh rims for my toy. It is now registered and basically stock, with no issues, including rust.
See you some time.
