Brake light problem

Post by Fiatracertracer »

Hello Fellow Fiat Owners,

Just purchased a red 1982 Fiat spider with a few repair items in the bundle.

I have some questions on how to go about repairing the following:

1. No brake lights.
2. Slow turn signals.
3. Black paint over spray on the beautiful red finish. Non visible but can be felt by hand swipes.
4. Transmission pops out of third gear...... need to hold it in place while driving.

very common to find the rear light boards corroded-both the bulb sockets and connections.
Tranny will need a rebuild; synchros, sliders, forks

overspray will require a light compound to remove.

Thanks for responding So Cal Mark, I really appreciate it.

You are correct about the light boards being corroded, the drivers side has a warped gasket that allowed a gap for water to seep in. This condition must have been the reason for the rust on the bottom right socket of the board. The passenger side looked OK but had a white powdery film. I tried to clean the rust but I don't think it was very effective.

How does one clean it off? Are new boards available?

New boards are available. Not cheap. I think AR carries them. I found questionable contacts on my boards and they were in excellent shape.
