RRoller Is it the cat or the springs that make the noise? a simple test would to to place some hose inside the springs
and see if it go's away.

That's a good idea. I may crawl under there today after I get sick of painting the house and see if that works. From the sound, it is clearly the springs. This is one of those things that is difficult to resolve, since it occurs while driving at high RPMs. I have been unable so far to get my son to hang over the side and take a look under there while I do that.

Csaba posted a method somewhere of adding another support to the exhaust system, overall, but I am not sure where that is located. Anyone know?

When mine was rattling, it was the heat shield.

Same here. The spot welds broke on the heat shield at the front of the converter. I used a large stainless steel worm-screw hose clamp around the shield/converter to stop it from vibrating and rattling. Works like a charm.

My Fiat mechanic recommends this one: It's a Catco #65003 universal fit and CA legal. About $100 on-line.

I recently removed the Cat and replaced it with a very well made test pipe, bought from Auto Ricambie. ( $146 w/ freight )

I think it may have 'liven'ed it up a tad', but I didn't like the sound. Maybe it just doesn't fit into my age bracket.
So, if anyone is interested, make me a offer, and you can try it out for yourself. It is the 4 bolt style for later models.

PM or pro-frog@comcast.net.
