Ignition roter direction

Post by bsharp »

1978 fiat spider 124 dual points dist.--I was changing out my ignition rotor and noticed that the flat metal strip inside the rotor was on the round part of the post inside the dist. and was not matching up flat to flat--it still runs great as is but would not this indicated that the dist. was in 180 out or would it run that way.

Someone mis-timed it. Fiats time on #4 (when the cam alignment marks are line up, #4 cylinder is firing), and they forced it to time on #1. Funny...

since the rotor seems to stay in place backwards does it do any harm that way--it runs great

also does anyone know if I can correct this by just aligning the mark on crankshaft and cam wheels and put rotor on correct and point it towards Number one and time it normally

This feels like the old "how many people does it take to screw in a light bulb" joke. Instead of remarking the timing marks and having 2 sets of marks, just put the rotor on right and rotate the dizzy 180 degrees.

Dizzy-do you mean to pull dist out and rotate 180 degrees

That's how I read it.
It is the correct solution.
