Rebuild Color Scheme

Post by spidernut »

I'm getting close to putting my motor back together and selected my under-hood color scheme today. Here's where I'm going with it. This is high temp engine paint so it should hold up well.

Is that a plastic or alum timing cover? Looks sweet!

Looks great, John! And, yes, is that cover aluminum, or is it plastic? It really looks nice!
I see you're still running reed valves,...I was never able to get replacements 14 years ago, so I plugged the holes. The ones that were on the car when I got it were broken and were burning up air filters for the PO, who decided to just drive it with no air filter, rather than fix the system! Killed that 2000cc engine!
I hope you saw that 4uall has managed to find his old rubber mat set, and the ones I need are on their way to me now. Thanks for your help in that respect! I keep the pictures you sent me of your beautiful car(s) in a folder.

The 79 came with a yellow plastic timing belt cover. The yellow VHT engine enamel I used is extremely close to the original yellow on the cam belt cover.

Todd...yes, I'm stuck with the stock set up due to the emissions laws here in the People's Republic of Califgomorrah. Thankfully all of my emissions parts still work! Glad to hear you found the mats. They're a tough thing to find as you found out. Post pix once you have it all together again.

I bolted down the head, installed the intake, exhaust manifold, cam boxes and a few other misc parts. If I can get one more day on the car uninterrupted I should have it all together and started. The way my life has been, it will be about another week before I get her fired up. :( :( :(

If the cam boxes chip or peel, it would be a royal PITA to repaint them. If the cam covers chip or peel, I can simply remove them and repaint or strip the paint.
