No power

Post by fiat218 »

Ok, let me see if I can explain, 2.0 engine. When I got it , it would haul ass between 3000 rpms and up
Now all I have done was mess with the duals 40 idfs
Changed the jets, and setting the idle screw and the mixture screws
It runs smooth,no hesitation, at low speed or high, but it just seems to have no get up and go like it did,
Nothing been changed as far as the timing from the start , so I know that is not is, it has something to do with the carbs. What is it

And why did you change the jets, etc? Was it not running well in some other way?

It was missing , so I was thinking it was the jets at that time, but it was because of other things going on, but it runs great now, just no power

I would go back to the old setup. More than likely one of the jets had some bit of dirt or crud in there and got dislodged when you changed things. This happens every once in a while on my setup. I just pull the jets, flush with carb cleaner and reinstall.

Idle jet is too large. at least that is typical of the "mixture screw does nothing" problem. typical diagnosis is to seat all of them, the engine should die, but when you turn them (or one) out it is immediately too rich and nonadjustable.

But then again, running IDFs is like buying frustration. Especially on anything bigger than the 1608. They are going to run like crap 99% of the time, and then you convince yourself its running great and you tell others how great they are. This is what we call the acceptance phase. At some point down the line you ride in someone's car without IDFs, say a fuel injected Spider or one with a big ADF, and you put the IDFs on ebay. We call this the freedom phase.

I was going to get a single carb, I'm no mechanic and tired of playing with them-so I might as we'll settle for a bigger single carb, and what carb would fit this 2.0 the best

1800 manifold and a 34ADF. Always the best combo. If you can find one get a 36ADL. Basically the same thing but bigger. Both work great with stock everything else.
