Any idea how I can contact Ralf? Sounds like that would be the right thing for us to do,...if your block has the same numbers as in my picture.

I looked further, on the Engine and Tuning part of the forum, and found my mistake.
focodave has a nice post about "engine identification" and 131 mentions "stamped numbers" and provides a nice link to a list of engine applications with numbers. They also are appropriate to the link that 2500diesel provides.
The cast numbers are NOT the proper serial number for the engine. Those numbers are stamped (as I expected to find,...all blocks have stamped numbers!), and found on a flat, machined surface, low on the driver's side near the front of the engine.
The block that came out of my '79 Spider has the numbers: 132, a very small C2, and 040 following that. Just below that is the consecutive engine number (serial number) 0914843. I'm going to see if I can eyeball the same numbers on the engine that is in the car now, but they might be a bit hard to see in a fully assembled and installed engine,...

WELL! That was easier said than done by a long shot!
Once I had a flashlight with brand new batteries, my mirror, and multiple long tools, with rags, to clean the area, I was able to read the numbers off the installed engine that came from Bayless 14 years ago: 132 D1 000 and serial number 1475738. BTW those are stamped numbers, not cast!
Now I can look them up.

Wow, mine was meant for Argentina. Can't imagine what would make this block 113 bhp rated as opposed to the original, rated at 83/87 bhp, unless they're referring to the assembled engine. Perhaps compression ratio differences? I'd bet the bore and stroke are identical, though. But the link I have does not provide that information:

This engine DOES have a lot more power than the original, but the PO(S) had destroyed that one by running it with no air filter.
