Blue cloud of smoke

Post by seabeelt »

Out for a drive this weekend with my wife having a great top down afternoon. Stop at the local farm stand for some fresh veggies, swing over to the fish market for some smoked salmon, tooling along a back road heading toward home with thoughts of supper and a nice cold vodka martini on the porch overlooking the water, when some ass$&!e  pulls right out in front of you, and I do mean right in front of you. Locked up the brakes and left rubber on the road with a big blue cloud of smoke and a screech that got the other drivers attention along with the dual air horns. I think he must have been drunk and belligerent to boot as if pulling out in front of us was some how our fault. Vesper did her job and stopped us safely.... All I can say is the standard original brakes worked just fine. :) especially after replacing the master cylinder. And boy was that martini good.

Funny, the car is kind of hard to miss being bright orange and it's not all that quiet either. I'm sure the guy never even looked before pulling out. If it had been two seconds later he would have broad sided us

Nice job of defensive driving, and protecting that fine, old car, seabeelt!! Glad the imbecile gave you enough time so you didn't get all tangled up with him! Or hit you, worse yet!
Geeze! The number of people on the road, who actually know how to drive, has been reduced to a handful, anymore.

Thanks Todd, it almost always seems to be the guys in big honking little man I have something to prove trucks or Cadillacs. Give them a cell phone to text with and we are all doomed.

Cell phones in cars are the bane of our existence! I do not own one, and even if I did, I would NEVER use it while driving!
Actually, I own one those kinda trucks, FRANKENTRUCK. But I don't have anything to prove, nor does my truck,...it doesn't even have monster tires, but it's a 3/4 ton '78 Chevy long bed that I built from scratch with one ton axles, a 350ci that I built to the hilt, and a t-case that allows me 2x4, 4x4, and front wheel drive! It came from a cow pasture where it had been dumped.

Sorry,...I couldn't help but show off another of my vehicles that I've built and collected! I have seven.
Sure glad your Spider is OK!! And performed so well, too!

That's OK,...we'll just not spend much time on it Arik, since it's seabeelt's post,...
I built it with the best Chevy had to offer, not what Chevy put together in their trucks. The t-case is a rebuilt NP 205 (gear driven, called "bulletproof") that has been specially machined to provide independent control, high or low gear, of the front and/or rear axles. I lock out the rear, lock the front in high, and I have 2x4 front wheel drive.
Cool, huh? Works GREAT in snow!
Thanks for asking, FRANKENTRUCK is quite special and unique. I love these vehicles I've built, and my Spider is one of my favorites!
Now, back to the big skid, saving the Spider,...
