How to torque camshaft pulley

Post by V12StealthHunter »

I just changed the camshaft seals and I'm trying to figure out how to put 36 lb.ft onto the camshaft pulley bolt without everything spinning.

I initially thought I would assemble everything including the timing belt and then lock the crankshaft in place but I think the timing belt won't like being stretched like that.

Any ideas?

FYI: The engine is on an engine stand.

For those of us who don't have a cam gear clamp, and old timing belt to grab the cam gear with usually works

I found the old timing belt hard to do. Bought a cheap chain wrench and it was a breeze.

Also, I could be reading it wrong, but my shop manual says the cam sprockets are torqued to 87 lb-ft. You might want to double check the 36.

Same here, the chain wrench worked for me, the old belt not enough grab.
