tires

Will a 185/80/R13 tire fit on a 74 spider? And would it cause any problems? Thanks for the help.

It might fit, but it's much larger in diameter than what is supposed to be there.
You need 185/70R13.

Has anyone tried running 185/70-13 in the rear, with 165/70-13 in the front; or see a problem doing it?

running a larger diameter tire in the rear will make the ass sit up. It is my understanding that the later models high suspension ruined the beautiful handling of the early cars. The other issue is how bad these cars plow in the corners. Having narrower tires up front would just make the problem worse.

I have a 1981 2000.
Both sets of tires are the same height, (70) so the rear will not be higher than the front. The only difference is that the rear tires would put 3/4" more rubber on the road than the 165s in front.

Do you still think it would 'bugger' the handling?

The 185/70 13 is 28 mm taller in diameter and it will support under steer because of the with and over steer because of the height.
(70) stands for 70% sidewall height. 185x0.7 is 129mm.

Thanks Tobi

... You are a big part of the 'why' this forum is so great!
In a very short time, I have learned that it is wise to 'run' all info, one gets from other sources, through here for verification.

Thanks again!

So, 185/70-13 on all 4s!
