Cutting through the crossmember is another way, but you'll find it easier to lift

Hi Sergio, welcome.
Yes, you will need to raise the motor to remove the oil pan. When you raise it, be sure to not pinch the hoses and wires that run along the firewall (Use a small piece of wood as a spacer between head and firewall).
What is the problem? Gasket leaking? Hit an armadillo?

Damaged on the oil pan was before me owning it and looks like it’s the gasket that’s leaking tried to tightening it up but still need to be changed and by the way here in Quebec Canada you are bound to hit more an ice block on the road than an armadillo. LOL2500diesel wrote:Hi Sergio, welcome.

Re: Oil pan on a 1977 fiat Spider
Not sure on a 77, but my oil pan has baffles in it so the oil pump also has to come off before the pan comes out.
Disconnect the exhaust, motor mounts and anything else that prevents upward movement. Jack at the tranny bell housing.
I can remember many years ago ( 1976) I pulled the pan on my 70 and cut a 13 mm wrench in half to get at the bolts on the oil pump. I was young and a tad impatient at times so I thought that was the way to do it.

I thought I remembered trying to loosen the oil pump through the crack between the block and pan. It's been 20 years, but I guess memories like that stick with you.narfire wrote:Not sure on a 77, but my oil pan has baffles in it so the oil pump also has to come off before the pan comes out.

And I still have a cut in half 13mm wrench in my toolbox.

No kidding, just don't ask me what I had for breakfast this morning....2500diesel wrote:It's been 20 years, but I guess memories like that stick with you.
I have that cut wrench around as well. I was given a small set of metric wrenches for my birthday soon after buying the 70,(75)
Still have 95% of the Craftsman wrenches I received, Felt bad about cutting the wrench though...
but I digress...again.
