My solution,
It was about 70 bucks for the material and 30 minutes for me to cut it to fit and seal the edges with tape before I stuffed it in between the sheet metal.

Got it thru the local auto zone.
Make sure to secure it to the hood with some adhesive between the hood and the insulation.
Do not rely on the tight fit between the sheet metal to hold it in place.
I did not bond mine at first and on the first trip out the material blew/vibrated out of position and I chafed a small hole in the pad on the passenger side.
Cool thing is, a small patch of aluminum tape covered the chafed area and you can't even see the repair.

I am looking for a hood liner for a 79, I have the OEM but it is starting to delaminate.

The hood liner to me is mostly a sound barrier to help make the car quieter. On some cars it is also serves as a fire blanket designed to drop from the hood to smother an engine fire. Some newer materials are coming out that are structural to help prevent depressions in the hood from minor bumps and such however that is a relatively new to me application.

On the my Spider I am considering going with Dynamat or Thermotec as RoyBatty did to help minimize the Diesel percolating sounds that some find irritating. I used it on the engine cover (doghouse) of my F53 Motor Home and it made an amazing difference in how quiet things are in the cab really muting the sounds of the V10 and its cooling fan which would come pretty close at times to making conversation impossible and got quite tiring after a while. A spray can of the correct adhesive comes with it if you buy the installation kit.
