I have a small problem with where the wires go for the ignition. I was wondering if anyone that has a block mounted distributor could post a picture of which wires are connected to the ballast resitor and coil. The reason I need the pic is the PO had an old electronic system and they completly hacked up the wiring and I am replacing it with the stock points.
Thanks

Re: Ignition wiring
points distributor wiring is very simple. you have power going to the + side of the coil when the key is in the "on" position. the wire from the points goes to the - side of the coil, if your coil does not have an internal resistor, then you would need a ballast resistor between the points and the coil. this will keep the points from "burning up". it is that simple. the points close grounding the coil making it spark.

Re: Ignition wiring
With all due respect, the above is not correct. The ballast goes on the + side of coil, betweent the wire from ign switch and the coil + terminal.

Re: Ignition wiring
I did a little drawing to get a clearer idea of what goes where.
I deleted the drawing cuz it was wrong

Re: Ignition wiring
Not quite, or your picture is confusing.
Wire runs from ign swith, this is hot wire that powers ignition system. It runs into ballast, either side. Other side of ballant goes to coil +. If there is a radio suppresor (looks like condesor) it too goes on + side of coil. From - side of coil wire runs directly to points.

Re: Ignition wiring
Thanks I think I get it now.
I redid my drawing.
1. Ignition wire goes to the ballast ressitor
2. A wire runs from the Positive on the coil to the other terminal on the ballast resistor
3. The wire from the distributor (points) goes to the Negative on the coil
4. The tach wire goes to the negative on the coil
So is this correct? Sorry for being so stupid but the PO ripped all the stock wires out and put in an old electronic system which had like 8 wires running everywhere including a wire running directly from the fuse box to the positive on the coil. The system worked but it was melting thats why I am trying to get it back to stock.
Thank for your help everyone.

Re: Ignition wiring
Yup that looks right.
I like your drawings, I could never do that.
