Been a couple of years since my last posts. In that time my spider has been stripped, bagged and tagged and remained untouched due to other projects. About to get my act together and plan and sort the rebuild. As things are going to change in myself and my wife's life in the near future, it makes sense to me to build the car exactly how I want it, as we will be spending a good deal of time in Europe. (We live in England, where it's RHD), so the spider is ideal. Now the bit that might not go down well!!!!! In the back of the workshop with a few bits and bobs I have a BMW S14 engine with a dog leg gearbox. A Cosworth LSD
And all sorts of brake parts etc. As the values, in England at least are not really going up, I am not too bothered about mechanical originality. Hopefully, apart from the fun doing it, I will end up with a spider with around 245BHP, handling and braking to match, but still look "original". I will keep you posted.

Sounds great to me. It's yours, make it what works for you. More power will certainly make it a better car on the continent for sure.

S14, eh? I'm jealous! Wouldn't mind throwing that in my wife's e30! I think this would be a fun swap and it would definitely make it more fun, without making the car nose heavy.
I have a 914 in pieces in my garage that will hopefully *fingers crossed* make it back on the road and I keep going back and forth about the propulsion as I debate about originality vs. making it what I want it to be. Like the previous post, I agree that you should make it what you want as you don't want to regret doing so when you had the chance!

Well, the S14 motor has been checked over, compression checked etc. and all is good. I had the gearbox overhauled awhile back, not that much needed doing they're pretty bullet proof. As soon as my new workshop has been built at home I will get myself organised and get on with it. I will have to work out how to put pictures on here and I'll start a build thread.
