if the radio doesn't make any noise on it's own, then yes... it's eliminated as the culprit. Those FM transmitter thingy's really don't work very well. Direct input is still the best option.mbouse wrote:umm, would that include the amplifier? or is it just the Alpine radio and the Sirius receiver?
the amplifier uses the battery ground as its ground... can't get any better than that. also, the postive terminal feeds the amplifier directly. So, if it is a ground loop issue - - - - can i eliminate the amplifier as the culprit ?
I am checking with the son-0-law to insure that the other two units share a ground.

Re: ignition static picked up on satellite radio
well, the son-0-law and the daughter are expecting the first grand SON any day now. So if little bambino does not arrive on the scene first....son-0-law and i are getting together for a wrenching session this weekend. I hope to have a direct connect cable fabricated by him for this project. will letcha all know.
Re: ignition static picked up on satellite radio
have you confirmed that the noise isn't in your hearing aids?
Re: ignition static picked up on satellite radio
huh? Did someone hear something?
the radio and the satellite transmitter share a ground. looks like a noise suppressor is gonna be inserted if the direct connection does not resolve the issue.

Re: ignition static picked up on satellite radio
I've learned over the years if the noise is a buzz, look at the electronics, if it's a whine, check the spouse

Hard wire it! It will fix it!
I have the Sirius Stratus. The fm transmitter option SUCKS. I assume you have a plug n play set up, with the docking port.If so, you have 2 easy options to hardwire it.
1 is the easiest. This is what I am doing in the fiat. I assume your stereo has teh input jack on the face? If so, get a asseccory apadptor jack (for ipod type stuff). It has a male connector on each end. You can find em at any electronic store. PLug it in to the audio out jack on th edocking station, and run the other end to the input jack on the stereo.
Or
2 this is how I have it on my truck. Orer a fm dierct adaptor from Sirius. You can get these on ebay for $20. One end goes o the audio out on th edocking station. Teh other end pluds into the back of the stereo. Remove the steroe from teh dash, unplug teh antenna, plug the cable into the antenna port. Then plug the antenna into the littel box wired into teh cable.
This is a cool set up. WHen the sat rad, is off, the car antenna picks up teresterial radio. When you turn on the sat rad, it bloks the FM signal from teh ant. then runs the sat rad signal straight into the stereo through the antenna jack.
Teh way you have it set up now, is th eworst way to enjoy sirius. You get background noise, static bleedover and all kinds of carp. hard wire it, and bedone with it.

Re: ignition static picked up on satellite radio
As Jeremy so eloquently states, hardwiring the transmission from the satellite receiver to the in-dash radio was the answer. My particular setup is not exactly as Jeremy states, but the basics are the same.
I no longer have the annoying ignition static, i no longer need to search for a vacant FM frequency. and the clarity of the signal went up prolly 100-150%...no kidding.
the difference is enourmous.
now, if they would just start coming out with quality in-dash units that were shorter, so we Fiat Spider owners could have enough room to cram in all these connections. Anyone remember the day when your radio had two wires exiting the back; one for power and one for the speaker? NOT ANYMORE...
