Easy differential back plate gasket replacement.

Post by Texsardo »

I read somewhere that there was a problem getting the later model differential plate gasket replaced because of the narrow space between rear stabilizer and brake lines. Old trick my father taught me was to run dental floss in and through the gasket ties it in place on the plate and it keeps the gasket from moving or falling out. Once you have a few bolts in place, cut the floss and pull it out (it is waxed so it pulls out easily without harming the gasket) and put in rest of bolts. Don't know if this helps but worked like a charm for me. No gasket paste or other goop to try to hold gasket in place. Unless of course you need to use some gasket sealent. But unless glued tight it still might slip.
