Bleeding the Fuel Injection
Bleeding the Fuel Injection
Sorry if this is elsewhere but I haven't been able to locate a thread describing how to bleed air from the fuel injection system. I recently acquired have a manual 1982 Spider that has been sitting for the last 5 years. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Bleeding the Fuel Injection
Clean fuel....drain the old crap out of the tank and have a look at it. Are there rust flakes in it? If so clean the tank before adding clean fuel. A rad shop or there are kits out there at auto jobber stores that sell kits to clean tank. Look at replacing any soft fuel lines as they might have rotted out.
OK have a clean tank, clean fuel, then hook it up with a fresh fuel filter and crank.
One thing with the FI system is that it likes clean fuel, I suppose so does a carb system , but the fuel pump is before the filter and any small chunks of rust will bugger up the expensive pump. Soooo make sure you have clean fuel from a clean tank.
Check for air leaks, make sure all the clamps are tight on the intake hose from the AFM, aux air valve, brake booster ect.

Don't forget to disconnect the battery before the disassembly part.

Re: Bleeding the Fuel Injection
the system does not require bleeding, it returns the fuel to the tank via a return line , ie self bleeding if you will

Re: Bleeding the Fuel Injection
I had the same question. I am installing a fuel pressure gauge in a T off the CSI. There will be some trapped air in the line when it is all put together. The air that is in the injector lines obviously gets pushed out through the injectors eventually, but I wonder how to get the air in the gauge section and in the gauge itself out? Maybe it eventually dissolves into the gasoline?

no need to worry about it the pressures will be accurateRRoller123 wrote:I had the same question. I am installing a fuel pressure gauge in a T off the CSI. The air is somewhat compressible at 30+ psi....

Re: Bleeding the Fuel Injection
yes it is and it will read the same pressure as the fuel, but if you are worried about it bleed it out,
Re: Bleeding the Fuel Injection
pressure is pressure from the gauge's perspective. water pressure, air pressure, fuel pressure, all the same. Ever bleed the air out of a tire to get a good tire pressure reading?
