Gotta love Fram filters
Ok, so I've heard how Fram filters suck and look cheaply made when cut apart, etc. I quit running their oil filters, but apparently the only fuel filter I could find 4 years ago was a Fram. This is a large high pressure filter on my '82 FI. Probably 6000-8000 miles on the filter. I'm getting ready for the Mirafiori Oregon camp out and all of a sudden a fuel cutout problem develops. Anyway, I eventually end up at the fuel filter. I removed it and you can hear the element rattling around inside. Yes the filter was installed in the correct direction. It was difficult to blow thru the filter. I thought maybe it had become plugged and that made it break apart, so I cut it open. Not a spec of crud inside, and no parts inside, except for the paper element. The element showed no sign of being glued at one time and must have been an inch shorter that the housing, so I have no idea how it was supposed to function, but for who knows how long, crud had been going around the paper element, when it wasn't blocking flow. It says Made in China on the outside. Thank you Fram.

Re: Gotta love Fram filters
I drove the car tonight with the new Mann fuel filter. Boy, what a difference. It used to quit pulling much above 4000 rpm, now it pulls to the redline. I finally remembered how I came to own the stupid Fram fuel filter, it was new inside of the box inside of a VW van that was traded in and blown up during that Cash for Clunkers fiasco. It was the correct part number for the Spider, too. It was free and still was not a good deal.

Re: Gotta love Fram filters
Thanks Trey. Another little bit of info I have to log away next time I put a new filter in the car....perhaps sooner than later now. Going to swap out the oil filter as well.
