stumble upon acceleration when hot

Post by dustin136 »

I have a 1979 fiat spider that jerks and stumbles upon acceleration when hot. It happens when cruising at any speed. Light or heavy acceleration usually triggers it. Pull over and idles fine and I can Rev the engine just fine. It eventually gets so bad the car becomes non drivable. At this point it will idle and Rev under no load. If car is shut off for 10 minutes it can be driven again for a short period then it starts to jerk again.

History of the car:
Sat for 11 years and engine was locked up

Here is what has been done:
Engine rebuilt w/ high compression pistons from Vick auto
Gas tank cleaned sock removed (cause it was nasty)
replaced rubber fuel lines and blew out the steel lines
rebuilt carburetor (Weber ADF)
replaced electric fuel pump, there is not a mechanical pump on the engine
Replaced ignition coil and ignition module
Evaporative emmision system has been removed

My next move is to replace the pickup inside the distributor and to possibly readjust the float. When I rebuilt the carburetor I set the float to the recommended gap. Should I make the fuel level higher or lower? I was hoping someone could help.

Is this problem due to vapor lock or loss of ignition?

Replaced the pickup and still has the same problem. Had a look at the plugs and they are black.

Its either running really rich (read carb adjustment) or burning oil. Did you replae the valve seals when you rebuilt the engine?
