Re: My 1974 spider down under
I've had this 1974 spider since 1990 and drive it almost everyday. Mods include a 2 litre Euro spec engine with twin Weber DCOE 40mm carbs, big brakes, LSD and heaps of other stuff done over the years.
The latest and very exciting upgrades include a carbon fibre air box, Ritmo Abarth 130 TC inlet manifold, Computronix ignition, 95 amp alternator and a full set of Millers Mule alloy pulleys up front with the 1 inch timing belt. The air filter is a K & N Apollo unit which will feed cold air from the front grille to the carbs.
The picture below shows the first trail fit of the new components to see how it all comes together. Amazingly it all tucks in there nicely with no clearance problems. Now I need to sort out the linkages and find the best position for the air box before I cut the holes on the base plate to bolt onto the carbs. I'm very keen to see how it runs with all these new parts especially the air box!

Looks very tidy.
Did you remove the bumper overriders? I've still got mine but I'm in two minds whether to take them off or not.

Re: My 1974 spider down under
I used to have over riders when it had the original bumpers fitted. When it was time to get them re chromed I ended up buying the Harrington stainless bumpers which had no holes for the over riders and I didn't want to drill holes into new bumpers so I went without them. In my opinion take them off, the car looks so much cleaner without them.

In that top pic, how are you going to route the Computronics Ignition cable? I found it to be a little too short to run all the way around the back of the engine and behind the w/washer bottle. I ran it that way but the last bit had to be routed across the front of the washer bottle. An extra foot on the cable would have been perfect.

Re: My 1974 spider down under
I'm routing the leads from the back of the engine and I'm using a washer bag so I shouldn't have a problem with length. It will be easy to work around it. I should have it all together and running in the next couple of weeks. I'll post a pic when it's done.

Re: My 1974 spider down under
I will post a pic a little later (it is raining now) of how the cable routes over to the coil packs, it is just a little too short to run behind the rigid bottle, which is a big disappointment. Haven't spoken with supplier about it yet, so don't want to start a big hubbub. I suppose there might be a way to route it across the front of the engine, but I don't like to do that sort of thing.

I am (partially) restoring a 1970 Spider and one of the things it is missing is the bumper over riders, front and rear.
I agree it may look cleaner without them, but the holes are bugging me.
I have only had the car for a couple of months, so as it came without them I have no idea what it would look like with them on.
Do you still have yours, and if so would you be interested in parting with them?
I am in Melbourne.
BTW, your car looks great, I particularly like the colour.

I added an extra foot to my computronix control cable and put it in a new sleeve. Looks fine and routes great.
Lovely car.

Re: My 1974 spider down under
I think I will do that, but it is disappointing that it is necessary to do so.

Re: My 1974 spider down under
I ran mine around the front. I tie wrapped it to the fan shroud. It is almost invisible and the length wasn't a problem.

Re: My 1974 spider down under
I wouldn't bother with the over riders. IMO they spoil the clean lines. Just get a couple of chrome bolts with a round head to plug up the holes. It will look neat.
