15 psi radiator cap
15 psi radiator cap
I have a 78 fiat spider 124 and the AutoZone manual I have calls for a 15 PSI radiator cap. I can only find a 13 and a 16 psi from the parts stores. The 13 will not hold the pressure and I was wondering if the 15 psi is correct and if a 16 psi would be too much. Ant thoughts out there

Re: 15 psi radiator cap
13 psi is what is recommended. with 15 to 16, you are prone to develop leaks.
Re: 15 psi radiator cap
Not sure what you mean "13 won't hold the pressure" any cap will leak when it's pressure is exceeded, that's why they have an overflow tube. If you fill a system completly full of coolant, it will piss some of that out as the coolant expands. This is normal.
Pressure is essential in a system, pressure raises the boiling point, and more btus can be carried at a higher pressure.
How hot does it run??
