So my 1979 Spider started making a mysterious clanking noise that I couldn't identify and finally took her into the mechanic. Figured out it was the AC pump coming loose from something. As I never use it, I decided to lighten the load and pull the damn thing out. Glad to be rid of it!
Anyone actually use AC in a car that old - I can only imagine what it does to performance...

Yes, I do use mine, I am actually working on making it more efficient. Cannot tell any performance difference with it on or off, but it has a small, new Sanden compressor, which likely does not use much power.

Re: Buh Bye AC!
I have talked to many in Arizona with modern ACs and ragtops. They tell me the heat is so intense, they traded the ragtop in for a hardtop. My 80 came with an AC. I pulled it out to save on weight and power. Haven't missed it yet.
