KYB install

Post by FiatRG »

Hello,

I am installing the KYB struts in a 81 Fiat spider.

Currently working on fronts.

Struts came out easily, but my question is about the new KYBs. In what order are the new rubber and metal plates that came with the shocks put on the top of the strut?

I arranged them from a pic of another members install but am not 100% confident and the instructions show too many diff configurations.

Also, the lock washer from the OE strut tower does not fit on the threaded top of the strut and the KYBs do not supply one. The nut spins and spins with out one. I purchased some, installed yet the bolt does not tighten completely.

What am I doing wrong here?

Those were the ones I used, thanks for those!

Well, I guess I wont fret too much about those then so my only issue is why that top nut won't tighten :(

Also, I really need to keep the upgrades moving along 4uall. What would be on the priority list to upgrade next? It seems like the striaght control arm's bushing is shot on passenger side so I'm guessing those next. Anything else to throw in the shopping cart while I'm down there?

On the fronts, the top part of the shock may be turning as you tighten the nut. Try holding on the top part of the shock (through the spring) while tightening. This can also happen in the back.

I would recommend any safety issue be priority one  If I knew then what I know now I would have never put my wife and son in the car until all of my suspension work was completed.
