Wire Wheels

Post by Frog2Spider »

Anyone know where one can buy spoke wire wheels for a 1981 Fiat Spider?

If not specificity avalable, are there other cars who have the same wheel bolt pattern,
OR
are there adapter plates available?

Itd be easy to do with adapters. I have seen a few wire wheels around, but they are not readily available.

Just FYI wire wheels are super heavy, and a HUGE pain to get on/off the car.

As beautiful as wires are, they are an antiquated design....heavy, hard to keep round (tuning is a real art form), high maintenance. I suspect they move alot with side g's

But they are pretty on the older cars.

I agree with everybody about real wire wheels they are heavy and can get out of line fairly easy. However I do like the look so I went with wire hub caps.

The wire hubcap will fit on the original steel rim. They are still pretty heavy though even for caps.

I have a set that have been in the attic for the last 35 years. Most likely a little dusty by now.

My wire cap came off of a corvair. I found them in a junkyard. Took them apart and cleaned them up one spoke at a time. They actually aren't heavy. They are not steel but polished aluminum. I found some fiat centera on ebay and used auto twould way molding tape to adhere them to the caps. I know most people are going with mags but I just like the look of the hubs.
